Good Blogs about Japan
I was thinking, since nobody reads my blog, I should offer those who stumble upon this page some recommended reading that’s acutally worth the effort. Here are some good blogs that I’ve run across and a blurb of what I like about them.
The first one is the Japanese Rule of Seven
While it might sound like another list blog – it’s not. The guy is just hilarious. He writes about daily life in a much more interesting part of Japan than the backwater I find myself in. And, did I mention? He’s hilarious! He’s got a great sense of humor and I even found the comments to be a level above what you usually get on the Net.
The second on the list is more on the serious side. It’s a political blog called Shisaku.
This guy totally knows his stuff, so if you get tired of trying to wade through Japanes polit-speak on the news or in Japanese language blogs – here’s your escape. Being a news junky, I try to keep up on what the crazies are doing in the Diet, but the language really ties me up in knots sometimes. I do like to watch watever I can of it – they have made an art of the verbal bitch-slap. For in-depth analysis, though, Shisaku is the place to go.
The next is a blog I’ve only read a little, but was impressed by the depth of analysis and use of references to actual research. It’s called This Japanese Life, but I wonder how long it will continue since it appears the author has returned to England.
So there ya go. A bit better reading about some stuff than you may find here elsewhere. If you know any others, leave a comment and I’ll add them along with any others I find in my Internet travels.
