Turning into a computer
Man it’s been a long week of staring at computer screens. Working nights getting the Joomla site up and running, then the past 2 days of working on Moodle quizzes for my students. I spent at least 8 hours today making 43 questions that I will use to construct the quizzes for their spring vacation homework. I set up template questions of each problem type, then it was just a matter of pasting the text and answers into the right places – and it still took me that long. Somebody has GOT to find some way that we can just cut and paste right from Open office documents into HTML text editors (like TinyMCe) without generating a mountain of crappy code.
It’s the reformatting that takes up most of the time. Tomorrow, I’ll have to combine the questions into quizzes and then set-up the web page resource that I use to make it easier for them to see what they should be doing. It’ll be 10 reading exercises in all, and I plan to make them dependent on achieving at least 50-60% to be able to move to the next exercise. This should force the ones that decide to do it to at least try a little.
And having said that, I find myself lying here at 12:30 in the morning tapping away on this iPad, writing blog entries for my basically empty site. Ah well, it’s got to be done sometime.
And on that note, good-night world. Tomorrow is waiting, another day another dollar. (Simply because “Another day another Yen” doesn’t quite have the same ring to it!)
