Redemption song
This is a song that I have been listening to for the past 30 some-odd years and yet the impact of what is being said has hit me more now than ever. And I need to give thanks to a great diving guide at the Karatsu Marine Sports Club going by Kingman Style JT. After introducing me to the fantastic world under the sea, I found he had this video posted on his Facebook account.
This part of the song, it turns out, is actually a quote from a 1937 Marcus Garvey speech. Of course he was discussing race issues, but what he said is relevant enough to all people today to reprint here:
We are going to emancipate ourselves from mental slavery because whilst others might free the body, none but ourselves can free the mind. Mind is your only ruler, sovereign. The man who is not able to develop and use his mind is bound to be the slave of the other man who uses his mind …
