Carp Streamers American Style
May 5th is Children’s day in Japan, when they celebrate the health of their children (check Wikipedia for the details.) They put out huge windsocks shaped like carp (a symbol of luck or something.) The black carp (Magoi) at the top represents the father, the red carp (Higoi) represents the mother, and the last carp represents the son, with an additional carp added for each subsequent son.
Well, here’s how we do it at my place: (for perspective, the black carp is 5 meters long)
